Button Your Coats, It’s Cold Out There

Finally.  Climate change gives up and coats are on again.  Sure, at some point we complain about chapped skin and numb nostrils, but for now we get to break out the stuff hidden in the back of the closet while the sweaty sun was killing us.  If you love clothes, now is your time.  You get to just pile them on.  Big boots. Wrappy cloaks.  Turtle necks, for heck’s sake.       But sometimes the onset of winter gives us a little Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and the impending freeze makes you want to cling to the summer that treated you so well.  You don’t have to...

Advice From Someone Semi-Qualified

I have a love/hate relationship with fashion. Part of me enjoys making a statement with my clothes. We’re all familiar with the boost in confidence you get from an on-point outfit or the spring in your step from those shoes you spent your paycheck on. Then there’s the days I couldn’t care less about what I wear. As if waking up and facing my day wasn’t enough of a challenge, dressing myself? No thank you. Yet it’s hard to find pieces that don’t feel like afterthoughts, but integral, balancing parts of any outfit. My favorite way to achieve this balance right now is referencing the low-key simplicity of ‘90s minimalism. That’s why I’m super excited to have been introduced to Every Monday Jewelry, locally made jewelry that’s shiny and minimal with raw details. “Just because I liked something at one point in time doesn’t mean I’ll always like it, or that I have to go on liking it at all points in time as an unthinking act of loyalty to who I am as a person, based solely on who I was as a person. To be loyal to myself is to allow myself to grow and change, and challenge who I am and what I think. The only thing I am for sure is unsure, and this means I’m growing, and not stagnant or shrinking.” ― Jarod Kintz, At even one penny, this book would be overpriced. In fact, free is too expensive, because you’d still waste time by reading it.  ...

We’ve Moved!

HAVE YOU HEARD?! Unhinged Sugarhouse has moved! Not to worry, it’s just around the corner at 2165 S. Highland Dr. next to Whole Foods in Sugarhouse Commons.  The new shop flung open its doors  to the public yesterday (Friday Feb.21, 2014) and welcomed customers old and new. The new space is beautiful and wonderful and everything a new shop should be! It’s much larger than the previous Sugarhouse location, and far more exciting. With lofty ceilings, impeccable lighting, and a fabulous “man cave” mezzanine, the feel and appeal of this new space is astounding....
